The Super Recording model was Olds’ flagship instrument from the late 1930’s until its replacement in 1948 with the standard Recording model. This model was designed for studio players in LA and has a lot of attention paid to ergonomics. The second valve is offset from the first and third, letting the fingers sit more naturally over the buttons. The wrap is nicely balanced and has a bell-side tuning slide.

These cornets are especially rare, particularly in such nice condition. This cornet was built in circa 1948 and has the fancy bell engraving seen on later models. The slides and bell ring are nickel silver, and the lacquer has a lovely amber tint to it. I can’t say for certain if the lacquer is original or was redone a long time ago, but the engravings and stampings remain sharp and legible. The horn has a gorgeous tone and feels quite easy to play. Included with the cornet is an original Olds 3 cornet mouthpiece (with appropriate shank size) and the (presumably) original Lifton case.
