Martin Committee Deluxe #3 bore - 1956

This is a 1956 Martin Committee Deluxe with the ever sought-after #3 bore size. The large bore committee is perhaps the most sought after vintage trumpet in the world, and was the choice of quite a number of jazz musicians, including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Dorham, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Blue Mitchell, Maynard Ferguson, and more. The sound and feel of the Committee trumpet is synonymous with the bebop era, and the light, bouncy feel of these trumpets combined with their dark sound is perfect for dizzying bebop lines, smoky ballads, and big band shout choruses.

This trumpet is in raw brass and shows signs of repair consistent with age and professional use over the last 70 years. There is a history of dent work around the bell bow and some small repair marks around the bell flare. There are no patches, and all parts appear to be original. The valves appear to have been replated at some point, and they have good compression and action, but are not factory new. The bell engraving has been buffed and has lost its sharpness, but is still visible. There are some marks on the underside of the mouthpiece receiver, a small ping in the tuning slide, and a few waves in the bell near the engraving. 

The large bore committee is quite a bit different from the medium bore models in its step bore configuration. This exit bore of the leadpipe is .453”, the tuning slide tapers from around .460” to .468”, and the bottom leg of the tuning slide is .468” going into the valve block. This trumpet was just serviced by Joe Loeffler in Chicago, including an ultrasonic cleaning, minor dent removal, and new felts and springs. Original case included.
